Throughout September, Friends Career Center ran a four-week online climate awareness campaign through its EcoFriends programme, themed “Climate Change Starts With Us: Young People Turning Everyday Actions Into Real Solutions.” Delivered across FCC’s social media platforms, the campaign invited young people in Rwanda to learn about climate change, take practical action in their own lives, and see themselves as part of the solution rather than simply those affected by it.
The campaign unfolded in four stages. The first week introduced climate change itself: what it is, what drives it, and the steps Rwanda is already taking toward a more climate-resilient future. The second week turned to small, everyday actions, including reducing waste, protecting trees, and even growing a small kitchen garden at home. The third week shone a spotlight on young people already leading environmental change in their schools and communities, while the fourth invited participants to make their own climate commitments.
At its heart, the campaign reflects what FCC believes about young people more broadly: that they are not just inheritors of the challenges ahead, but capable of leading the response to them. As the campaign put it, climate change starts with us, and so does the solution.
