In the third quarter of 2026, Friends Career Center (FCC) welcomed eight more young women into Cohort 3 of the EmpowerHer Program, continuing its commitment to supporting young single mothers and vulnerable young women through practical skills development and pathways toward economic independence.

The new cohort will undertake six months of vocational training at Mwananshuti Vocational Training Center in Kicukiro and Ecole de la Paix in Bugesera in two practical fields: Culinary Arts and Hairdressing. Through this training, participants will develop hands-on skills that can help them prepare for employment, start income-generating activities, or pursue entrepreneurship.

The EmpowerHer Program combines vocational training with mentorship, psychosocial support, student follow-up, and continued guidance. This approach aims to support participants not only in gaining technical skills but also in building confidence, preparing for opportunities, and navigating challenges along their journey.

Since the program began, EmpowerHer has supported 41 young women through vocational training and related support. Participants have gained practical skills and opportunities to prepare for greater independence and improved livelihoods.

For the new participants joining, the journey is now beginning. Over the next six months, they will have the opportunity to learn, practice, build confidence, and develop practical skills while preparing for the transition from training to future opportunities.

FCC will continue to accompany participants throughout their journey through follow-up, mentorship, and guidance, helping them apply what they learn and prepare for employment, entrepreneurship, and financial independence.
